This five (5) days event will provide an opportunity for young people from around the globe to come together to discuss, find solutions, share best practices and develop innovative projects on ocean issues pertaining to marine pollution, climate change related impacts on the oceans, sustainable blue economy, coral reefs, fisheries among others. The aim is to discuss the role of how young people can play a role in contributing to ocean and marine conservation and take action to maintain the sustainability of the maritime environment.

The International Conference on “Youth, Ocean and SDG 14” will operate primarily in an interactive mode. During the five days of International Conference, key issues relating to Youth, Ocean and SDG 14 will be presented by local and foreign speakers in the form of interactive lectures, case studies, video documentaries, skills sharing workshops, and informal discussions through active participation among participants. On the last day of the International Conference, participants will formulate an Outcome Document.

The International Conference on “Youth, Ocean and SDG 14” will be held from 16th – 20th April 2020 (tentative) at Dynasty Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The official language of the conference is English.

  • Young people between the age of 18-32 and Observers (limited number of seats are available for those between the age of 33 -45 years old);
  • Representatives from Non-Governmental Organizations(NGO), Youth Clubs,  Civil Society Organizations, CSOs, institutions of higher learning, corporate bodies; philanthropy organizations, officials of the relevant government ministries or agencies or related stakeholders;
  • Proficient in English, able to do presentations in English, is a Must;
  • Possess good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrate strong leadership abilities, committed and passionate in fostering change;
  • Capable and willing to share experiences and resources with others in the community and contribute to the follow-up process;
  • Willing and being able to participate actively for the whole duration of the event;
  • Geographical and gender balance will be respected.

When your application is received and reviewed, you will receive a Letter of confirmation within 7 working days if you are selected to attend the conference.

  • Accommodation: 4 nights stay on twin-sharing basis during the conference from 16th – 20th April 2020
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Coffee Break are provided during the official International Conference dates. For participants with special dietary requirements, the organizers will make arrangements as much as possible to adjust the meals accordingly.
  • Airport transfer: Shuttles will be provided to the official venue from KLIA and KLIA2 for delegates arriving on 16th April 2020 ONLY (10.00am, 2.00pm and 6.00pm only) (subject to further  changes)
  • Airport Transfer to KLIA and KLIA2 for international participants departing on 20th April 2020 (subject to further  changes)
  • Participants from Malaysia will have to find their own way to the Official Venue.
  • Conference materials including nametag, folder,
  • Field trips and outreach programme
  • A Digital Certificate of Participation for delegates who have fully attended the conference. Kindly ensure that you register on each day at the conference venue.

Malaysia has excellent domestic air link and a well-developed and effective public transportation system served by buses, taxis, and trains. The better way to fly to Malaysia is by Malaysian Airlines directly or its partner airlines (www.malaysiaairlines.com) or Malindo Air (http://www.malindoair.com/) and we recommend that you book your ticket online which is much cheaper. The landing airport for Malaysian Airlines and Malindo Air in Malaysia is Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Sepang (KLIA) (http://www.klia.com.my/index.php?m=airport).

You can also fly to Malaysia via AirAsia or AirAsia X (www.airasia.com) which is a leading budget airline. The landing airport for AirAsia or AirAsia X in Malaysia is Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) (http://www.klia.com.my/index.php?m=airport&aid=2).

Participants are responsible for their own air-travel and travel-related costs. Participants are strongly advised to arrange for their own insurance for individual travel, medical care and personal effects while attending the conference. Participants at the International Conference on “Youth, Ocean and SDG 14” are not covered for insurance purposes by World Youth Foundation.

We recommend you to check the following websites i.e. www.kln.gov.my (Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia) and www.imi.gov.my (Department of Immigration) on visa and immigration rules. We would also advise all participants who need visa to make sure they apply for visa as soon as their participation is accepted. Please also make sure that you comply with immigration requirements for yellow fever certificates. Please ensure that your passport validity is more than six months from the date of your travel.

We will provide approved applicants with a Formal Confirmation Letter to facilitate the application of Entry visas. You can present this official letter to the Embassy of Malaysia if you are applying for an entry visa.

Please note that the confirmation notice does NOT guarantee the issuance of a visa or admittance to the Country. Visa issuance is entirely contingent upon the Embassy’s and Consulate’s discretion, and admittance upon the Immigration authorities’ (INS) discretion at the point of entry.

We are unable to provide any financial assistance, grants and subsidies assistance.

We suggest you to check with local and international organizations in your region for sponsorship. Other delegates have found subsidy and sponsorship through searching the internet, approaching their local NGOs/GOs, businesses, friends, international funding agencies and even family.

Yes. You can still attend the International Conference on “Youth, Ocean and SDG 14” as an observer. Limited spaces are allocated to observers. The fees are the same as for any delegate

Yes; the full registration fee is still applicable. However, you will not be eligible for the Certificate of Participation unless you complete the full program.

The program of the International Conference will be intense, therefore if you want to visit Melaka / Malaysia, we advise you to arrive few days before the International Conference or stay few days longer after the event, at your own cost.

The dress code for the International Conference is formal for all sessions (no tie is required). Torn jeans and slippers / flip flop / sandals are not allowed during the International Conference proper.
