What is the World Youth Foundation?

The World Youth Foundation (WYF) is a youth focused International Non-governmental Organization (NGO) which was launched in 1994 with the aim to promote development, research and documentation beneficial to the youth worldwide. The Foundation is an NGO with Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC) and an NGO Associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information. WYF supports the work of the UN, in particular the newly endorsed Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

What does WYF do?

World Youth Foundation seeks to create opportunities for youth to get involved and grow, regardless of where they are in the world. Our activities include engagement in dialogues, conferences, training, seminars, exchange programmes, consultative and knowledge based research. Our activities support our programmes in knowledge sharing, capacity building, civic engagement, educational and cultural exchanges, local outreach programmes among others.

What youth issues are addressed by WYF?

WYF has addressed several youth issues in the past including (but not limited to) education, HIV/AIDS, drug and substance abuse, violence against women , child brides, youth employment, community development entrepreneurship, globalization, climate change, disaster risk management, sustainable development, human rights, culture and diversity, peace and religion, conflict resolution, terrorism, racism, democracy, population, poverty and hunger-management, life under land, sustainable cities etc.

What have you achieved?

In recognition of our work the WYF was granted:

  • ‘Special Consultative Status’ with the Economic and Social Council ECOSOC in 2004
  • ‘Civil Society Status’ from United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in 2007
  • Operational Status with the National Commission of UNESCO Malaysia in 2012
  • Full membership with the Commonwealth Youth Council in 2014.
  • Became an NGO Associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information in 2016

Who can attend WYF activities and events?

Representatives from youth organizations, youth workers and youth leaders, Civil society organizations, Government organizations, Corporate Organizations and students of higher learning institutions whose concerns are related to youth issues. We also organize open events throughout the year.

How can I volunteer with the WYF?

How can I launch a campaign through WYF?

How can I gain membership with the WYF?

WYF is not a membership based organization.

How can I support the WYF?

You can support the Foundation through:

  • Voluntary financial contribution. For contributions, please contact us via our email: for further details
  • Jointly co- organising programmes with World Youth Foundation to increase our reach
  • Actively participate in the Foundation’s programmes and it’s follow-up process
  • By being a volunteer (online and onsite) / intern with WYF
  • By disseminating the work of the Foundation
  • Providing media coverage if you represent a media company, website or blog

Where does WYF get its funding from?

WYF gets funding from corporates bodies, international and local organizations, ministries and related agencies, individuals etc. WYF accounts are audited by an external auditing company.

Is WYF a non profit organization?

WYF is non – profit organization registered in Malaysia. However, the Foundation is not a grant awarding or donor organization.
