How does an Internship Programme work?

An internship is an opportunity to put the academic knowledge to test through practical career-related work experience. Internship programmes are frequent in corporate and private businesses, government agencies and non-profit organizations. The primary goal of every internship programmes should be to provide interns with a chance to learn specific tasks and organizational experience, while contributing to the organization’s needs.

What internship opportunities are currently available at the World Youth Foundation (WYF)?

World Youth Foundation (WYF) is currently offering an internship to support the coordination of our work and programmes. Through this Internship Programme, we aim at offering a small group of outstanding graduate-level students the opportunity of acquiring direct exposure to WYF’s work. This programme is designed to complement development oriented studies with practical experience in various aspects of youth, development, research, events organizaation and documentation.

Where do WYF Internships take place?

Internships will take place at WYF Headquarters in Malacca, Malaysia. Assignments vary greatly in terms of content. Every attempt is made to match the interests of the intern with the needs of WYF.

Who can apply for WYF Internship Programme?

To qualify for an internship with the WYF Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year of graduation.

How long do Internships in WYF last?

The internship is for a minimum duration of three months. Depending on the needs of WYF and upon satisfactory performance of the intern, there is a possibility for extension for another three months. The total duration of the entire internship period is six months at maximum. Under no circumstances will there be extension beyond six months. Assignments are available on a full- time basis throughout the year on a rolling basis.

The internship is UNPAID and fulltime. Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff members. A small goodwill allowance may be given at the end of the internship programme at the sole discretion of WYF.

What are the main tasks of WYF interns?

Tasks are varied and change from support in administrative duties, event planning and management; the collection and analysis of information; the preparation of communication tools and materials; among others depending of the needs of the organization. In all cases, interns are involved in several processes of the overall organization and are given specific responsibilities.

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background and as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

-Assistance in drafting and preparing official documents;

-Attending and summarizing conferences and meetings;

-Document, research;

-Assistance during conferences;

-Logistics and protocol support for office events;

-Working on web-presentation;

-Social Media posts;

-Evaluation of projects;


-Translation support for outreach materials;

-Support for the production of WYF newsletter;

-Support for WYF activities;

-Report writing.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a WYF intern?

We look for young people with the following characteristics:

* Strategic, creative and innovative thinking.

* Strong logical and analytical writing.

* Able to assume responsibility and have good leadership qualities.

* Excellent communication skills, planning, organizing and enthusiasm for research are the keys.

* Willingness to understand different views and opinions.

* Basic understanding of different social issues, particularly youth, is important.


English and Bahasa Melayu are the working languages. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional language is desirable. i.e Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish, Hindi, etc


Short-listed candidates will be contacted by the hiring manager directly and may be required to submit for a written test and/or telephone interview.
